Not Advice
This is not investment advice. On second thought, go buy an index fund.
This is not investment advice. I am not a registered investment advisor. Most people should just buy the index.
Still here? Ok. I once built the guts of a fund-of-funds at Marketocracy. The number that actually mattered was batting average: over a sliding window, how often does this manager beat the market on the horizon you actually hold? Turtles, not hares who sprint at the last moment.
This year an annuity showed up after my mom died. A planner wanted 0.39% extra over an index. I had Grok write the old batting-average script. On a one-year window it cleared 50%. That is not a guarantee. If you are going to pay up for active management, at least demand a batting average that is meaningfully above 50% on the time frame you actually care about.
The full story is on X, including Ken Kam, the Iomega Zip drive, Iraq, and the GitHub for the script.
