I was skeptical of the media version of J6 from the get go for the following reasons.
- My grandfather, also named Pierce Wetter, was railroaded by Woodrow Wilson for “Insurrection, Sedition, and Espionage”. He spent 5 years in Leavenworth.
- My wife, in her 20s, was a regular participant at protests. She even joined the Communist Party so she could participate in them. They trained her that if a cop ever swings at you with a baton, to drop immediately and hit the deck, because everyone else will see that and it will cause a riot. She purposefully did this at one protest, the riot ensued, and the LAPD drove her somewhere and beat her up before taking her to jail. She had a felony assault against a police officer beef on her rap sheet for years. If she got pulled over, the cops would unbuckle their holster before approaching the car. (Felony because it was during the AIDS scare.)
- I spent a summer working at the National Air and Space Museum, and had walked to every branch of the Smithsonian on the Mall at lunch to eat at one of their cafeterias. It’s a long walk from the Ellipse to the Capitol, and one lunch I walked right into the Capitol to my Congressman’s office and left him a note. I was not garbed as a Shaman. The lunch at the National Gallery was better. People can’t teleport. Given that Trump talked until 1:10, there’s no way he could have been mentally controlling events at the Capitol that had already happened.
- I have built a whole “news deconstruction” prompt for @GrumpyNews_ that gives me unspun news, because TV News pushes the fear/anger buttons hard so I’ll watch the ads, and it gets in the way of knowing what’s going on.
- The rhetoric around J6 is just BS. A coup is a bunch of lean young men with guns, not a bunch of portly middle aged people milling around and singing songs. Unarmed middle aged people milling about is a county fair. I’ve been to county fairs. It takes 5 minutes to get across the empty fairgrounds, and 30 minutes with people there during the fair.
So a couple of years ago, open.ink released their excellent video showing all the major events at the Capitol in time order. No one but me cares any more, but it’s still one of the most silly arguments we have in politics.
Hence this sim. This sim shows that:
- It was chaos.
- The Trumpkins weren’t there for most of it.
- The cops and demonstrators escalated off each other.
- In other words, a classic American Political Shit Show.
You stay for the speech. You walk east. Cards are cutaways until the body is there. History is the golden path. There is no solve button.
