A Fuse, not a Smoking Gun

Trust vs. truth

Trust in American institutions has been falling since the 1960s, and it fell off a cliff in the 1970s. If you are waiting on a smoking gun from the Democracy files, you will be disappointed. I went looking for one. I indexed the calls and the documents. I did not find a person, a date, and a sentence that says: we built the mail-ballot rules, the paid blocs, and the 2026 street training as one plan, and tomorrow we light it. I followed the money. The public returns name a donor-advised fund and stop. The person who directed a donor-advised check is not on the page. A Treasury exam or an FBI file can open that box. I cannot.

That is not the same as nothing being wrong.

When we had kings, and in the Soviet Union, suspicion was enough to throw you in jail. When things go bad, the accusation becomes the proof. The Soviet constitution listed more rights on paper than our Bill of Rights. Solzhenitsyn's point in The Gulag Archipelago was that the investigators were not handed an order that said "torture this man." They were handed a quota. Close this many cases. Hit this conviction number. They knew what the quota would make them do. The rights stayed on the poster. The quota ran the building.

So while its annoying to know, but not act, I'm ok that I'm not in jail. Remember that when you're upset that people aren't in jail; they would have come for you a long time ago. The story about the Emperor walking around naked is a fairy tail because IRL, the government is quickest to put the people saying they're incompetent in jail...

I spent months trying to get an AI to tell me the truth about the news, and the fact-checks that miss the point. That forced the older question. What is truth. Philosophers have been stuck on it forever. The Commandments don't ban lying. The Ninth Commandment bans being a false witness. You can tell your wife the dress looks great. My wife used to look at a woman with a bad haircut and say she had no true friends. After testing it on the news for months, I ended up with three values. The third one is the one that lets the AI be more honest. Humans too.

Lawyer True. O.J. Simpson was not guilty. A criminal jury said so.

Irish True. He did it. A later civil jury found him liable for the deaths. Most of the country already knew that.

The criminal acquittal is what the legal system is allowed to say. The other one is what a normal person says at the kitchen table.

Don't Know. This one loosens the requirement to answer. That is freeing. A gap can stay a gap, and the question is finished. A machine hates that, because a machine treats silence as a failure and will invent a receipt to fill it. A person who is allowed to say "I don't know" does not have to. Lawyer True and Irish True work best if Don't Know is a permitted answer. Otherwise both of them turn into a performance. The media pushes politicians to answer with no information, and then they can't roll back. AI hallucinations and politician hallucinations come from the same source.

Lawyer True means: You can find the proof without breaking the Fourth Amendment, argue both sides in front of a referee, and get the required people to agree. In a criminal case that is a unanimous jury. Annoying as that is when you already know the Irish answer, it is the rule. A government that has to follow rules written down in advance is a good thing. I want that rule aimed at them too, not only at us.

Irish True means: You can say it in an Irish Pub after everyone has had 3 beers without a fist fight.

The politicians, most of them trained in that system even when they are not practicing law, are upset that a tech bro has a technology they do not understand. I have a lawsuit going. I got back from talking strategy with my lawyer while I was writing this. The legal system feels to me the way a programming language feels to a lot of people. Weird, slow, and obvious only to the people who live in it all day.

We have to live inside rules set up by those people, the same way we have to live inside technology set up by tech bros. Tech bros are mostly well meaning, lawyers not so much. Except for @EvilTechBill. Fuck that guy. Lawyers are trained to be the good advocate or the bad one, whichever the client needs that morning, and to call the switching ethics.

The rest of us run on Irish True. That is why the press "fact-checks" Trump as a liar and a lot of us still hear him as the one telling the truth. We do not want a paragraph on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. The answer is: as many as God needs, and not one more. We're good with that.

I have an account that cleans the news, because I want to know what's going on. It's called @GrumpyNews_ and it runs on non-binary truth. Because it has to. It's the only way to identify the teams, to realize that NYT/CNN/WaPo all saying the same thing doesn't make it true; they only ever have one opinion between them.

Grumpy History: How we came to be ruled by Technocrats and why they are desperate.

During the Bronze Age, bronze was copper plus tin, and tin is rare. The countries that had the tin had a veto on weapons. Then people learned to smelt iron. Iron is not scarce. It is most of the planet's core, and it is in the ground everywhere a farmer can reach. You did not need a king's permission to arm him. After iron spread, the old empires came apart, because violence had been democratized.

Food was not evenly shared. Being ruled by aristocrats felt natural because they had more food and better food, which made them healthier, larger, and sharper. A sword also takes spare time to master, and spare time was another thing they had, along with special expensive horses and special clothes. Size stopped deciding the fight, and a spare afternoon stopped deciding who could train. English farmers at Agincourt showed that cavalry was not all that. Feudalism ran out of excuses. Then guns arrived and food became plentiful. The modern day aristocrats want to take away our guns...

The next scarcity was education. It felt natural to let the educated experts run things. They had more information, and better information. We swapped aristocrats for technocrats and called the swap progress.

If you are designing a rocket motor, you should hire a PhD in fluid mechanics. If the sewer backs up, the PhD is useless. The problem with the technocrats is they revere the PhD over the plumber. Plumbers have saved more lives than doctors. Clean water and a drain did more for a lifespan than a man who has never snaked a pipe.

A broiler and a layer are two different kinds of chicken. We eat about nine and a half billion broilers a year in this country. The birds that lay the eggs are the other flock. When bird flu hit, the USDA decided it was fine to kill the layers. In the outbreak that started in 2022, the cull ran past 100 million egg-laying hens, on the order of 140 million by the middle of 2025. They never thought to call an egg farmer and ask what you do with a laying flock if you want eggs next month.

Then the internet made information cheap. The technocrats regrouped around "critical thinking," which is a fine phrase right up until it means "only our criticism counts." They blew the regroup with postmodernism. Everything is relative. Nothing is true.

I am an engineer. Disk brakes are better than drum brakes, because physics. That sentence is not a vibe.

Then COVID. The experts said one thing, and they repressed the argument against the message. Not a debate they won. A debate they banned. While the TV News pumped the fear virus into our eyeballs every night, and cut the POTUS off when he started talking to us directly.

Now education is on YouTube, and the critical-thinking layer is an AI, which will still get confused if you do not give it permission to say it does not know or to argue both sides first. Jordan Peterson is trying to build a university for that generation, Peterson Academy, where a BA would be the videos. It is not an accredited degree (yet). That will come if he can prove value to a hiring manager. I have fixed things by watching YouTube. My doctor has to convince me to take a medication. AI reviews my lawyer's filings for mistakes, and finds them. My lawyer doesn't like AI. After 26 "oops", I'm not that fond of my lawyer.

The universities are going to lose their monopoly. They already lost it in IT. The shops hire the certification over the degree. The power of the technocrats is being redistributed. They hate it. Rome hated the Germanic tribes for the same reason. England hated the Americans for the same reason. The people who held the scarce thing do not applaud when the thing stops being scarce.

Between AI and robots, education is about to stop being scarce, and goods are about to get cheap. The e/acc nerds call that post-scarcity. Star Trek already filmed it. "They use money? How quaint." The technocrats are headed for the garbage bin of history, along with bronze, nobles, and an anointed 'educator' class. Good riddance.

So when the Kommies talk about saving "democracy", read it as job security. They mean keeping the power of the technocrats, not rule of the plumbers.

I call them Kommies because they are not Bolsheviks. They are technocrats running a 1917 plan with smiles up front and knives in the back. I am an asshole, so the name is a joke, and the joke matters. A liberal friend told me I think everyone is a commie. Half true. I think they are Kommies. Poking fun at them is part of the point. You will see why at the end. A costume that cannot survive laughter is already in trouble, and these people have very expensive costumes.

What's legal vs. what's illegal

It is legal to dress up as Krazy Kommie Kosplayers, glorious revolutionaries ready to overthrow the government and build a utopia.

It is legal to write contingency plans for the day your paranoid fantasy comes true.

It is legal to sit in a Zoom room and fantasize about your glorious socialist utopia.

It is legal to get all your information from MSNBC.

It is illegal to throw the brick.

It is illegal to deliver the pallet of bricks to the riot. Unless you happen to own a construction site next door, and that is your cover.

The files I read are full of the first three, and I am assuming the fourth from the way they talk. I did not find the fifth or the sixth. We will keep looking.

You do not need the brick if the sentence is enough.

King Henry II said, will no one kill this meddlesome priest. Four of his men left the table. Thomas Becket died in Canterbury Cathedral. No court convicted Henry. He later went back to Canterbury and did public penance. He did not hand anybody a knife. He handed them a mood, and they finished it.

The Secret Service allocates protection by what I call replacement cost. A sitting president is not a spare part. A presidential candidate is. So is a member of Congress. AOC is. So they did not put anyone on the one rooftop in Butler. Those are just the rules. The Kommies are good at rules. A rule that leaves the roof empty does not have to say "leave the roof empty." It only has to rank the people, and the roof follows.

The fuse

I call the thing we do have a fuse.

A fuse is not an explosion. A fuse is the train of conditions that makes the explosion easy, legal-looking, and ready when someone decides the day has come. You can hold the fuse in your hand. You can show it to a jury of normal people. You still do not have a conviction, because nobody has been caught touching the match to it, on paper, in their own words, with a date.

Pew has been tracking one piece of that fuse for almost seventy years. In 1958, when the National Election Study first asked, 73 percent of Americans said they trusted the federal government to do what is right just about always or most of the time. The peak was 77 percent in 1964. Then Vietnam, then Watergate. By the end of 1974 it was about 36 percent. It has bumped up after a crisis, including after September 11, and it has never recovered the old level. Pew's December 2025 update of the series says that since 2007 the number has never been higher than 30 percent. In September 2025, 17 percent said they trusted Washington just about always or most of the time. Two percent said "just about always." Fifteen percent said "most of the time."

That 17 percent is not one country feeling one thing. It moves with your party, and it moves with whether the president is your party. Pew has the chart titled, in plain English, trust is higher among members of the party that controls the presidency. In May 2024, under Biden, Democratic trust was about 35 percent and Republican trust was 11 percent. By September 2025, under Trump, Democrats were at 9 percent, the lowest Pew has ever recorded for them, and Republicans were at 26 percent. The out-party does not trust the building. The in-party trusts it more, and still not much. A referee whose fans only trust the call when their team is ahead is not a referee. He is a jersey.

Gallup's July 2026 reading is the same weather on a wider map. Average confidence in the fourteen institutions Gallup has tracked since 1993 was 27 percent, one point above the record low, and the fifth straight year under 30. Twelve of the fourteen were at or near their own lows. Congress and television news sit at the bottom of that pile, down around one in ten on the recent readings. Trust in mass media, the "great deal" or "fair amount" number Gallup has asked since the 1970s, was in the high 60s to low 70s when they started. The latest figure in that series that I am willing to quote is 28 percent, the first time it printed under 30.

The Kommies put an organization run by Kommies on the list the banks use to decide who they should do business with. That organization is the Southern Poverty Law Center. Jeff Bezos told Congress that Amazon used its list the same way it used the government's sanctions list. The banks were told a former president was not someone they should do business with. Catholics got the same treatment. So Trump got into crypto. Then the Kommies decided crypto was bad, because it was not something they could control.

Full disclosure. I have a coin. It is named $GRUMPYSHITCOIN, because that is my opinion of the meme-coin market. I am not a fan of crypto. I am not a fan of the government deciding who gets a bank account either.

In April 2026 the Justice Department indicted the Center for bank fraud, for lying to its own banks about the accounts it used to pay people on its list. The Center has pleaded not guilty. The outfit that taught the banks who they were allowed to serve is accused of lying to a bank.

That is the powder. A country that does not trust the referee will believe whichever side says the game was stolen. Both sides have pre-written that speech.

The news sucks

The news business does not get paid for truth. It gets paid for attention.

The last time the incentive pointed at honesty was the single-sponsor years. NBC's Camel News Caravan ran from 1949 to 1956 with one advertiser on the tent. Camel's incentive was narrow and ugly: do not do a lot of stories about what cigarettes do to your lungs. The rest of the broadcast had a reason to look straight, because the brand was standing there in public. When the news stopped being "brought to you by" one company and started selling scattered ads, the incentive flipped. The job is to keep you in the chair through the break. Fear and anger do that cheaper than a true thing.

So if ninety-nine astronomers say the comet misses Earth by a million miles, and one guy says we all die tomorrow, the one guy gets the segment. That is not a conspiracy. That is a rate card.

Special counsel Robert Hur, in the February 2024 report on Biden's classified documents, wrote that a jury would see the president as an elderly man with a poor memory, and declined to charge him partly for that reason. The press did not treat that as the news. The news was that Hur had been rude. They yawned at the senility and barked at the man who wrote it down.

My wife has dementia. The first thing you lose is executive function, because that is the outside of the brain. I had to bring an aide to the supermarket with us. My wife would go "ooh, shiny" and wander off. At the G7 in Italy, Biden walked away from the other leaders toward a parachutist packing up a chute, and the Italian prime minister went and got him. That was not called dementia. It was. I don't need to be a neurologist. When you have spent a year watching the light go out of the love or your life's eyes, you know what it look likes. I don't hate Biden. No point. I hate the people who stood him up because he was the only leader in the Democratic party they could pretend was a moderate to a country that doesn't trust either party.

Trump's 34 felony convictions were a books charge. Falsifying business records. In ordinary life that is an accounting entry, and the misdemeanor version dies on the statute of limitations. New York kept it alive by calling each entry a felony, on the theory that the paperwork concealed some other crime. The Clinton operation lived in that same species of paperwork and did not collect 34 felonies for it. The path into those records ran through the searches of Michael Cohen, and those searches rode in on Russia Russia Russia. My wife is a Democrat. She has dementia. She still recognized a railroading. She had me turn the flag upside down. Principles before politics. The neighbor across the street ambushed her while she was walking the dogs and told her to turn it upright. Everyone is talking. FU Mia for going Mean Girls on my wife.

Cops are trained for pain compliance. The National Guard is trained for crowd control. That division of labor is the point. Cops are there to take someone to jail. The Guard is there to keep a crowd inside the rules. On January 6 the Guard was not on the Capitol, because Trump's requests were blocked and he was lied to about it. He was 1.6 miles away, at the Ellipse, still giving the speech. The first barriers, a poultry fence with the "Stay Away" signs, came down at 12:53. He spoke until about 1:10. Nobody who stayed to hear him finish could have been the person who pulled that fence. The walk is too long. The news ran the speech and the fence as one act. The clock says they were two crowds.

Kamala was another presidential candidate nobody liked except the technocrats. Cygn.al ran an exit poll. National TV news watchers were 69 to 30 for Kamala over Trump. Run the two names through Google and you did not get the same kind of answer. Trump won anyway. People do not trust the news anymore.

Television news has been on that slope since the sponsorship model died. I do not need them to share my politics. I need them to stop selling me a disaster every night and calling the sales pitch a fact-check. They fact-check the Irish sentence and ignore the fuse, because the fuse is boring and the accusation is a show.

Lawyer True, the things we can actually say

History: Hillary was a bad Candidate

The history that is actually on paper, as opposed to the cartoon. Hillary Clinton lost in 2008 despite the superdelegates. That is the fair shorthand, seventeen years later. She started with them. They were the insiders, the people she had raised money for, the people for whom Bill Clinton was still a pile of money and a phone call. The lock was supposed to hold. Obama won the pledged delegates, which is the part regular people cast. After that, the superdelegates looked at their own voters and switched. She lost even though she began with the insiders locked up. That is Lawyer True.

In 2016 she played the wrong game. She won the cities. She did not win the counties, and she did not win the right states. The popular vote was hers by about three million. The Electoral College was not. The technocrats read that loss as proof the vox populi could not be trusted. I read it as the vox populi having a different idea than being governed by technocrats, and the technocrats running her campaign doing a terrible job. The forecast class was surprised. The surprise is Lawyer True. The moral they drew from it is the Irish True section.

The Steele dossier was opposition research paid for by the Clinton campaign and the DNC through their lawyers. The FBI used it like it was evidence instead of opposition research. The Justice Department inspector general and the Durham report both found serious failures in that investigation. The Mueller report did not establish a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Those are documents. "Obama and Hillary sat down and invented Russia Russia Russia" is a motive story. Motive stories go in the Irish True section, but I will say, people will generally believe what they want to believe if the alternative is to admit their own incompetence.

The Romans had a word for a man who fed people and then owned their politics. Patronage. The clients ate, the patron ran for office, and by the end of the Republic the clients had become armies. That is one of the roads into the civil wars that killed the Republic. We renamed it outreach and put it in a training deck.

History: Closing the Churches

Arizona used to let people vote in saloons. A saloon is a bar with a public room. Cowboys rode into town, voted the saloon's slate, and got the free drinks that came with it. Machine politics with a wet whistle. Churches are public rooms too, and they are empty on a Tuesday. So I've mostly voted in churches until 2020. In 2020 the public-health orders closed the churches and left the liquor stores and Target open. The news showed long lines and said people were being disenfranchised because the county could not find enough buildings. The buildings were sitting there with the lights off, because someone had decided a pew was dangerous and a checkout line was essential.

History: The Collapse of Trust

The trust collapse is measured. Pew, 1958 to 2025, above. Gallup, 2026, above. This is not a mood. It is a sixty-year chart.

Low trust is a researched finding, not a vibe. Robert Putnam delayed publishing his own result because he did not like it. In diverse American communities, trust went down, including trust inside the old group, not only trust of the newcomer. That is "E Pluribus Unum" (2007). It is not a warrant to sneer at anybody's grandmother. It is a warning that if you add a lot of people from places where the rational move is to assume you will be cheated, and you do not tighten the audit, a high-trust rulebook gets played by low-trust strategies. California's audit was built for a different population than the one it has now. Updating the audit is a rules change. Pretending the old audit still fits is how you get the chart Pew is publishing.

Shakespeare was correct

Lawyers were most of Congress when a lot of the rules were written. Through the middle of the nineteenth century about four out of five members were lawyers. In January 1964 the New York Times counted 315 lawyers in a Congress of 535: 66 of the 100 senators, and 57 percent of the House. They are not most of it anymore. The Congressional Research Service counts 140 House members and 47 senators in the 119th Congress who hold law degrees and have practiced, about a third of the House and about half the Senate.

The pen stayed. The House and Senate Offices of Legislative Counsel draft the statutory language, and every drafter in those offices is a lawyer. Committees keep their own counsel. The member can be a farmer. The sentence in the code was still written by someone trained to move the lines. That profession is the size of a rounding error in the country. Their ethic is the client's objective inside the lines. If the lines can be moved, moving them is the work.

Speaking of Trust:

Mail ballots are a chain of trust, and trust is a bug. I wrote the shape of this up in July. These are the places the system asks you to trust someone:

You trust that you are registered.

You trust that the ballot arrives on time.

The county trusts that the ballot was not sold or handed off.

You trust that the ballot gets to the elections office.

You trust that the office counts it.

The office trusts that its machines counted it correctly.

You trust that the person the ballot was mailed to is the person who filled it out.

You trust that the person who filled it out was not coerced. A woman in a household that runs on sharia will never get to vote sharia down. The ballot is in the kitchen. The kitchen is not a secret booth.

The White House release inspired me to write about an obvious hole in one of those trust points, in public, on purpose. The voter-registration database is the list of who gets a ballot. If your name is missing, nothing arrives. An absence is harder to notice than a theft. The Help America Vote Act provisional ballot helps the person who shows up and is missing from the poll book. It does not help the person whose ballot never came and who did not notice in time. The July 2026 White House election-integrity release flagged centralized voter files as the exposed point.

Another hole from real life: Number 7 is not a theory. Oregon keeps trying to get me to register my wife, who is in memory care. If I did, I would be the one filling out her ballot. A California liberal friend admits he already does this for his mom. He will not vote for anything but a Democrat. That is not a scandal in his house. That is Tuesday. Two ballots, one hand, one party.

I am not relitigating a certified election. I am describing the machine. I do not think a machine with 8 points of trust is a reliable machine.

Ballot Harvesting?

The collection rules are written down, and the name they picked is the tell. California mails a ballot to registered voters. Someone else is allowed to return it. A shelter can be an address. They call the collection ballot harvesting. You harvest crops. You harvest ballots when the ballots are a crop. A spouse signing for a spouse is a thing I watched while I was opening envelopes in Santa Clara County in 2020. A bloc of ballots can be visible from the language on the envelope before anyone opens it. The signature-checking machines do not work at the setting that would actually check a signature, so the people running them turn the sensitivity down until the ballots go through. A federal case of paying people, including people on Skid Row, to register is on the books. The person in charge of handing things out to the homeless carried the precinct where the homeless lived. None of that is a secret codebook. It is the election code, plus a floor I stood on.

Minnesota wrote a cousin of the same rule. A registered voter in the precinct may swear that up to eight other people live there, and that oath is their proof of residence for same-day registration. Minnesota Statutes 201.061. Staff at a residential facility, and the statute's list of facilities includes shelters, are not capped at eight. You cannot vouch if someone vouched for you that day. That is the guardrail. Eight is still a work crew.

Illegal Voting

The citizenship fight is in court this month, and the number is not settled. A noncitizen voting in a federal election is a federal crime, 18 U.S.C. § 611. Since last fall the Justice Department has sued about thirty states for their voter rolls. The judges who have reached a final ruling have rejected the Department's theory for grabbing the unredacted lists. Separately, the Department has sent states lists of people it says may be noncitizens, and it has asked election officials to set those ballots aside. California was sued over a list on the order of 20,000 names. The Ninth Circuit turned that ask away. Orange County, which had told an earlier records suit that it removed 17 noncitizens since 2020, told the Department on October 28 that it would not run a 1,754-name check in forty-eight hours. Charged cases nationwide in the recent push are in the low hundreds, not the hundreds of thousands. Nevada pressed for the evidence behind a five-figure list and was told the verified residue was 185. The lists are real. The lawsuits are real. A count of illegal ballots equal to the press-release number is not Lawyer True. I am not going to pretend it is.

What is Lawyer True is the hole in the check. Everyone talks as if a Social Security number means citizen. It does not. Noncitizens with work authorization get Social Security numbers. DOGE looked at the Social Security database, found that the assumption was false, and cleaned records that were fraud. Out of that came a check a state can run online in seconds, the same SAVE system the Department of Homeland Security already used for benefits, pointed at the voter roll. Red states ran it and took people off. Blue states refused. The SAVE Act would tell every state to use a citizenship check. It is stalled in the Senate because the votes are not there. The data has errors, because it is data. With time, the errors can be fixed, and a letter can go to anyone who gets delisted so a citizen is not knocked off by a bad match. The lawfare is the point of the delay. They answer with "no significant amount of illegal voting." The standard in this country is not significant. The standard is 50 percent plus one.

The skills gap in ballot harvesting is real. Democrats spent twenty years building mail and early-vote operations. Republicans spent a lot of those years saying the method was dirty, which was an argument, not a machine. You can be right about the method and still lose the election that is run on it. 2024 showed the Republican side can use the same pipes. The pipes did not get honest because the other team learned to use them.

Alaska Nonsense

Alaska made the ballot into a note. The state uses ranked choice. You are supposed to read a strategy guide before you can vote properly. I am a UI nerd. People call tech support because they cannot find the Any key. There is no Any key. Software engineers mock them. The confused user is correct, and the engineer is wrong. "Any" key will not work. The shift key will not. When I design software, anything in the manual that requires a note is professional malpractice. A ballot that needs a strategy guide is that note.

Mary Peltola is running for Senate there against Dan Sullivan. The New York Times, on October 28, reported that her campaign went looking for other people in Alaska named Dan Sullivan, found a retired teacher in Petersburg named Dan J. Sullivan, and worked to get him into the race. The campaign denies it. A former aide who described the project later tried to take the interview back. The Times kept the texts. This was the plot of an Eddie Murphy movie, The Distinguished Gentleman. He gets elected because the voters already know the name. It should not be an election in America.

The elections director, Carol Beecher, decided he was not a serious candidate and took him off the ballot on June 15. He appealed. A state judge put him back, and the Alaska Supreme Court agreed on June 29, because the statutes do not contain a "be serious" rule. Fake Dan Sullivan stayed. He is on the November ballot.

The money is on the Federal Election Commission reports. On July 6, Dan J. Sullivan put $10,000 of his own money into the campaign, and the campaign paid the Washington firm Caplin & Drysdale $10,000 the same day for legal and compliance work. The committee still shows about $32,000 in debt. Mary Peltola's committee, Alaskans for Mary, has paid Marc Elias's firm about $117,000 in legal fees this cycle: just under $10,000 on February 20, $30,190 on April 20, and $76,944 on July 1. The Times has an Elias lawyer, Jacquelyn Lopez, in the talks about the ballot. On October 24 Elias said the firm is in court for Peltola and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee against the Justice Department's suit.

The pushback is that Republicans tried it too. They did. In May 2024 a Republican activist in Washington paid the filing fees for two other men named Bob Ferguson to run for governor against the attorney general, who is also named Bob Ferguson. The state makes that a felony when the point is to trade on a name the voters already know. The attorney general told them so. Cease-and-desist letters went to their houses. He said he would ask prosecutors to act if they were still on the ballot at 5 p.m. Both were gone by the deadline. One of them said he was withdrawing under duress, because he did not have the money to fight. The Kommies pay for lawyers, the Republicans didn't. Those are not the same story.

What is and isn't in the files

The paper plan in the files is real. I am not asking you to take my word for the tone. These are sentences in their documents, or on their calls.

A September 2026 campaign proposal, Meeting the Moment, says the scenarios the campaign must be prepared for include an armed crackdown by an illegal invocation of the Insurrection Act, an election meltdown, and a hijacked constitution. The next sentence says those are among the emergency scenarios "we aim to catalyze." Same page: the governors are not yet ready, and the group will reassess in December 2026. A full-text search of the indexed archive found "aim to catalyze" once.

Paul Zeitz, on the August 13, 2026 call, describes an options memo for governors for the case in which the federal government is deemed illegitimate. A September draft called Vehicles for Democratic Renewal says the paper is not a call to secession or force, and that a lawful Insurrection Act invocation in response to actual violence is not, by itself, the trigger.

John Mongan, on that same call, is the only speaker I found who reports the replies on his congress note: Massachusetts did not want to touch it, and California and Illinois were interested if someone else went first. That is not an answer to Zeitz's options memo. He does not name the governors. I have heard that stretch. It is his recollection, in his voice. It is not a letter from a governor, and it is not three offices holding a signed plan.

Later on that call he spins a science-fiction version of Trump refusing to leave. Trump squeezes Rubio and Vance until staying looks like the only move. It is weird enough that Zeitz cuts him off: let's not get into Trump. Mongan parks it. What he says after that is still his scenario. The room did not adopt it.

Their own August 2026 newsletter points readers at Freedom Trainers and an Election Defense deck. The deck says if results have to be enforced, the precedents are Ukraine, Serbia, and Brazil, and "we may have to do that here." The condition is on the page. The same family of training tells people to stay nonviolent and not to take the bait. A slide, teaching from Otpor and Chile, says small groups should test what provokes overreactions or supports defections. Otpor is the Serbian chapter. That is not a nickname I added. It is the citation in their training. That is the closest line to an instruction to produce the overreaction. It is a lesson. It is not an order to make a president invoke the Insurrection Act.

In July 2025, NOTUS quoted Rosarie Tucci, who had run USAID's democracy bureau, on a path to a "massive strike," and Danielle Reiff, the retired USAID diplomat beside her, on shifting the work from foreign assistance to inside the United States, with about two hundred volunteers. The files talk about Serbia because that is the work they used to do. That is a public sentence and a résumé. It is not a signed order to manufacture an election dispute. The claim that this pair personally circulated the old wartime sabotage pamphlet is one I am not willing to stamp. Don't Know.

What the search did not find. I looked for the verbs that would make this a case. Force his hand. Make him invoke. The sooner he invokes. Escalate until. We proceed anyway. Don't put this in writing. Move it to Signal. Across the calls and across more than six thousand documents, including a check for phrases broken over line breaks, those lines are not there. "Seed the Vote" and a sentence about a parallel vote count separate from the government are not in the archive I indexed. A parallel count would matter. A rumor of one is not a receipt.

Donor Advised Funds are the NGO version of money laundering, only legal. A donor-advised fund is a charity that takes your money and writes the check in its own name. Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, and Goldman Sachs Philanthropy Fund do this for a living. The tax return names the fund. It does not name the person who said where the money should go. Two shops paid by the same fund are siblings under that fund. That is Lawyer True. You can hold the form up. You still do not have the man. I cannot invent him so the story has a villain. That invention is the smoking gun this piece does not have. Following the name takes a Treasury exam or an FBI file. I do not have either one.

The size of the box is the point. Mediators Foundation, the fiscal sponsor their own 19 August 2026 prospectus names, took $55,000 from a named political fund, Democracy Fund Voice, in 2020. Over the same years its largest funder was National Philanthropic Trust, a donor-advised fund, at $3,156,571. The named check is real. The anonymous pile is larger. Goldman Sachs Philanthropy Fund paid the Justice and Education Fund, one of the vehicles the 2023 New York Times tied to Neville Roy Singham, $37,948,701. The same fund paid Protect Democracy $4,120,000. Same sponsor. Two checks. The form does not say they were the same person. Joe Tsai's name is not on these returns either. A fund like this would hide it if it were. As far as the paper goes, that is the whole sentence.

Opinion: if the CIA doesn't have moles in these funds, they should get some. They'll need all of them, because these funds pass the money around like bad boys pass a hooker at a bachelor party. A normal Sankey is a one-way river and it dies on a loop. I had to teach mine to draw the circle, or this picture would not exist.

Irish True, the direction I will not pretend is a conviction

The people who write these plans are good at rules that pay off later, in somebody else's hands. They do not need a memo that says "step 1, step 2, step 3, seize the capital." They need the rules, the training, the lawyers, and a public that already doesn't trust the referee.

Everything in the legal-versus-illegal section above is legal right up to the brick. The training says 'nonviolent' because they say so. The governors, on the only account we have, have not agreed to go first. A lawyer on a nonprofit's board makes the next lawyer billable and, in their world, respectable. Hiring the lawyer is the tell and the shield.

Data’s October 31 drop says the ex-USAID group does not decide when the street moves. She points up a level, to the Election Safeguards Response Network, and from there to Norm Eisen. She calls that an inference, and she says he is not the only hand on it. I do not have a sentence in which he orders the day.

We are not going to get the man on his deathbed who connects the mail-ballot expansion, the church closures of 2020, and this year's deck. You can see the pattern. In a lot of states, houses of worship were shut or capped while Target stayed open. In the same season, mail voting was expanded and then, in California, made normal. I believe the second used the first. I cannot show you the meeting where someone said that out loud. Irish True. Not Lawyer True.

The 2020 Democratic total was about 81 million. The 2024 Democratic total was about 75 million. The Republican total went up. I do not have a receipt that says the 81 million was manufactured. I have a receipt that says a number that size did not show up again when the other side also learned the pipes. People heard the missing six million as a confession. A confession is Irish until someone produces the ballots.

They think in decades. Losing the popular story in 2016 did not end the operation. That would require less hubris. Technocrats need their hubris. If they admit they don't know everything, they have no justification for rule. So it professionalized the story that the result was illegitimate, and it staffed the shops that now train for the next time. The USAID people said the quiet part in a newspaper in 2025: the tools came home. That is not the same as a unified command since 2016. It is the same people, with the same doctrine, out of a job abroad and busy at home.

The Kommies are running Henry's sentence, aimed at this president. Will no one rid us of this meddlesome President. Then they talk about the socialist utopia they will build if there is a legitimacy crisis. They spent decades manufacturing those crises in other countries. The costume is the utopia from the top of this piece. The crisis is the product. The sentence is the order they do not have to write down.

Opinion, which is not Lawyer True

There may still be a smoking gun in a file I do not have. Some governor may have done more than humor the cosplayers. Someone may have ordered the pallet of bricks and parked it behind a hardware-store invoice. I have not found it. If you find it, bring the page, not the thread. If you find it, we can get a conviction.

When I look at the fuse above, I think it has been lit for a while. They think so too. They write as if the explosion is the responsible forecast. Mail ballots expanded in the season the churches were closed. The citizenship checks are being fought in court by the same professional layer that calls a documentary-proof bill a coup. The training deck is already telling volunteers that if the result is not honored, the model is a foreign capital and a strike. Raman filed for mayor of Los Angeles on February 7, 2026, hours before the deadline, after the other serious challengers had stepped aside, and then passed Pratt on the late mail in June by about 30,000 votes. The "Pratt got zero votes in one dump" screenshot was an Associated Press feed updating out of order. The county records do not show that dump. I am not going to lie to you about a screenshot. When I write articles, my AI is set to not lie to me, so it won't let me lie to you. But it understands Irish True, and Don't Know. What I will say is that a third-place finish produced by ballots counted after election night, under rules written by one side, is exactly the kind of result a fuse is built to argue about. They do not need a stuffed ballot box if the rules and the calendar do the work, and the news only shows the hour that helps.

Their plan, as I read the training and as Mike Shelby reads this style of operation, is that our side overreacts. A cracked skull, a federal charge that looks like a roundup, a president who reaches for the Insurrection Act because the street dared him to. That overreaction is the excuse. The slide about testing what provokes an overreaction is the tell, even with the "don't take the bait" line sitting next to it. You can teach both. One of them is the safety briefing. The other is the tactic.

That bothers me more than the slogans. DataRepublican has been right about the cost. A color revolution runs on eroded trust. Eroded trust does not stay in the other party's voters. It eats the society. For most of 250 years, with the lawyers cheating at the margins the whole time, this was a high-trust country. High trust is the asset. If we answer a legal fuse with an illegal fire, we burn the asset to prove we saw the fuse.

So we react. We do not overreact.

What we can do

Trust God before you trust a man with a grant and a slide deck. Men lie. Quotas lie. Machines fill gaps. The habit of telling the truth when it costs you is the whole defense, and it starts in a place the Pew chart does not measure.

@digitalgunny, a retired CIA operations officer, and I have written up the Drop as an intelligence assessment to ICD 203, the Intelligence Community's own standard for how its analysts have to write: sources described, uncertainty stated, alternatives tested, judgments kept separate from the evidence. Remember, I'm a human factors guy. Don't fight the machinery. Give the government the information in the form its own analysts already know how to read. Once it's out, I'll have Grok build and share a prompt so that in future, open-source findings can be delivered in that form every time. Skill set upgraded.

Push judicial reform. The referee is the product. If the referee is a quota in a robe, Lawyer True becomes Soviet True and Irish True is all anybody has left. That is the death of the country, whoever wins the next street. Pol Pot killed people who wore eyeglasses.

Form trust groups. Small, named, people you have seen in daylight. A high-trust country is not a slogan. It is a set of people who still cash each other's word. If the national institutions are at 17 percent, the repair is not a better brand campaign. It is a block, a church, a shop, a jury panel, where cheating is still shameful because everybody knows your name.

If there are protests, livestream the whole scene, not the burning tree. The news, given a forest fire, will frame the one tree that is on fire and crop out the billion that are not. That is what they did with January 6. If this fall produces demonstrations, strikes, or a "mostly peaceful" caption, the answer is more cameras, held by people who are not getting paid by either outrage desk, pointed at the quiet ninety-nine percent as well as the idiot with the brick. The brick is the crime. The crop is the lie.

Mock them. Krazy Kommie Kosplayers cannot survive laughter, and a contingency plan that says "nonviolent" in public and "provoke the overreaction" in the training deck should be read out loud, in their words, with the page number. Ridicule is not a substitute for the audit, the voter roll, the citizenship check, or the refusal to take the bait. It is what you do so the costume stops recruiting.

The fuse is real. The gun has not smoked. Do not let them write the next chapter with your temper.

If you are FBI/Treasury/CongressCritter reading this, DAFs should not be black boxes. Things hide in the dark.

Embrace AI. It can be empowering, it is on your side, and to learn how to use it, all you have to do is ask. I have a prompt.
